Since my birthday falls on the bank holiday this year, and incidentally clashes with my regular roleplaying game, I'm going to be celebrating on Sunday 24th. My plan is simple: I'm going to spend the day drinking beer and watching films - with perhaps the odd TV episode or bout of fighting games to break things up. Naturally this will be occurring at Harold Grove, as per usual.

I'll begin my odyssey at about 2pm, so if you care to join me, feel free to turn up any time from then onwards. I promise not to get too bladdered until the evening, so if you'd rather turn up about 7-8pm then I should still be relatively coherent.

Sorry for the short notice, hope some of you can make it along*! :)

* If nobody comes then I shall turn to my backup plan: drinking beer and playing Team Fortress 2 all day. This is my default backup plan, and is good for all occasions.

This month's agenda:
1) b33r!
2) Talking crap.

That is all.

This Friday, 8pm @ Mr. Foley's on the Headrow (previously known as Dr. Okell's).

I've just been talking to nick_stewart about the monthly pub-meet and how it seems to have died a death, and we figured it was about time we tried to resurrect it. So with that in mind we'll be meeting at Mr. Foley's on the Headrow (previously known as Dr. Okell's) this Friday (3rd October) at about 8pm. Hope to see people there!

Incidentally, if anyone is up for getting food somewhere before hand, let me know. How about Wagamama? I've not tried the one in Leeds and my vague decade-old memories of the one in London suggest to me that it might be quite good in a cheap-and-cheerful-noodles kind of way.

So, Cashback. Originally a short film that achieved a fair degree of critical success, it was later expanded into a full length feature. Having heard good things about it some time ago, I had it on my LoveFilm list - but by the time it arrived, I'd largely forgotten about it and so watched it without any particular expectations.

So I ran the first session of my new Dragonsilver campaign "Test of the Balance" earlier tonight. All in all it went very well, people seemed to grasp the background and system pretty easily and everyone got into character right away - plus we got a decent way into the opening plot. Here's hoping things continue to go smoothly :)

Mainly for my players, but also for anyone else who is sufficiently bored or curious, here's a link to the Dragonsilver Wiki. There's still a huuuge amount of stuff that needs writing up, but there's enough there to serve as a reasonable primer for the campaign.

After having fun chatting, drinking and watching a couple of old films (Dark Crystal and Labyrinth) on my birthday, maviscruet and I ended up discussing the possibility of doing something similar again soon. With that in mind we're proposing an evening spent watching The Princess Bride and Stardust at my place on Friday the 13th of June (i.e. a week on Friday). So: beer, pizza, and some good films to talk over - who's up for it? We'll start the first film at say 8pm?

Incidentally it has been suggested that the proposed entertainment is insufficiently horrific considering it's Friday the 13th and all, but I think that's overlooking the essentially terrifying nature of both films: there's witches and pirates and giants and people mostly dying all over the shop. It'll be a chilling time.

It's my birthday on Sunday (the 25th) and since it's a bank holiday on Monday I figured I could probably get away with celebrating on the day itself without people having to worry about work the next morning. My plan is simple: beer + movies + friends, at my house, on Sunday night (say from about 7pm onwards, though I don't mind if people want to show up earlier).

Hope to see people there! :)

I know, I know. Try to contain yourselves.

Christmas was good, peaceful yet entertaining. I read a lot, which makes a nice change for me. Turns out Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is good fun and rather better than the first 3 books in the series, who knew? Also the second Uplift trilogy by David Brin is grand, thanks to ste_pb93 for that.

Now that I've returned I shall commence a rigorous campaign of doing things in much the same fashion as I did last year. For starters I shall be installing Call of Duty 4, and also continuing work on my Somewhat Secret New Roleplaying Project. Exciting, neh?

Happy New Year everyone :)
